Learning through play,
guided by curiosity
At Mirambeena, we believe that play is the essential medium through which children learn. Our tailored programs are centred on play-based learning, which helps children organise and make sense of their social worlds as they actively engage with people, objects, and ideas. By observing each child’s interests and needs, we provide a program that is responsive, relevant, and tailored to support individual growth.
Our approach is dynamic and flexible, extending children’s skills, knowledge, and abilities in meaningful ways. The natural environment is an integral part of our program. Children are encouraged to explore, discover, and develop respect for native wildlife and the land they play on. Outdoor experiences foster resilience, self-confidence, initiative, experimentation, social connections, and self-regulation. Nature play is deeply embedded in our practice, nurturing environmental awareness, strengthening children’s connection to Country, and laying the foundation for lifelong care and respect for the natural world.
We are committed to embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives throughout our programs, helping children develop an appreciation for Australia’s First Nations cultures, histories, and knowledge. Cultural diversity is also celebrated, with opportunities for children to explore and respect a wide range of cultural traditions, languages, and perspectives.

Our curriculum is guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (Belonging, Being and Becoming), My Time Our Place, the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline, and the National Quality Framework. These frameworks recognise that the first five years are a time of immense growth, and that play-based learning provides the greatest benefits for children’s development.
Embedded within our curriculum are the skills of critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity — essential foundations for success in life, learning, and citizenship. We also place a strong emphasis on connecting with the natural environment. Children are encouraged to engage with natural materials, participate in outdoor learning experiences, join regular community excursions, and even share everyday routines, such as mealtimes, in nature.

Mirambeena is a home away from home, where children are cherished, families feel connected, and community thrives.

Play is central to learning, fostering imagination, curiosity, resilience, problem-solving, and social connection.

We believe that children thrive when they enjoy healthy, nutritious meals and develop positive eating habits that support their growth and learning.
We celebrate each child’s unique way of thinking and nurture their dispositions for learning, curiosity, and resilience.

Caring for babies 3 months-2 years, the Gumnut Room provides a calm and nurturing environment for our youngest learners. Experienced educators guide each child with gentle care, providing plenty of space to explore, play, and develop foundational skills in a safe and supportive setting.

The Possum Room welcomes children 2-3 years with energy, imagination, and discovery. Children can explore an outdoor area for running, climbing, and digging, alongside a dedicated play and art space filled with dress ups, hands on art, and mud play to inspire curiosity. Independence, creativity, and social skills are nurtured in a safe and joyful environment.

Catering to 3-4 year olds, the Butterfly Room provides a warm, play rich, pre-kindy environment where children develop foundational social, emotional, and self-help skills. Through open ended experiences, outdoor discovery, and creative exploration, educators support children to build confidence, independence, and a strong sense of belonging as they take the next steps in their learning journey.

Designed for 4-5 year olds, the Kookaburra Room offers a stimulating, engaging kindergarten program that nurtures school readiness and lifelong learning. Blending play based learning, nature play, loose parts exploration, and opportunities for safe risk taking, the program fosters curiosity, problem solving, resilience, and collaborative learning in preparation for the transition to Prep.
